Women’s Self-Defense in Tokyo & Yokohama – The Advantages of Krav Maga

For women living alone in Tokyo or Yokohama, or those who feel unsafe walking at night— Women face unique challenges in situations where they need to protect themselves.

In many real-life situations, the attacker is physically larger, stronger, and more aggressive. Traditional martial arts or combat sports that women often learn are not always suited to address these realities.

That’s why KMG Japan offers women’s self-defense classes specifically designed for women, teaching practical and effective Krav Maga in Tokyo and Yokohama.

With clear instruction and realistic training, you’ll build both the skills and confidence to act safely and decisively in your daily life.

The Reality of Dangers Women Face

Women living in Tokyo and Yokohama are exposed to various risks in their everyday lives.

Crimes such as groping, stalking, sexual assault, and domestic violence often involve attackers who are physically bigger and stronger.

Traditional martial arts like karate and judo take years to master. While they are excellent for sport, they were not designed for real-life self-defense situations, and are not always effective against a stronger opponent.

This is why women need self-defense systems designed specifically for them.

Why Krav Maga Is Effective for Women

Krav Maga is a self-defense system designed to help anyone protect themselves, regardless of size or strength. This is particularly important for women.

How Krav Maga Helps

✓ Uses simple, instinctive movements rather than complicated techniques
✓ Targets vulnerable points (eyes, throat, groin) with precision
✓ Employs quick, unexpected counterattacks to take control of the situation

Krav Maga focuses on natural reactions and efficient movement, not brute strength, to deal with real-life dangers.

Defending Against Realistic Attacks

At KMG Japan (Tokyo & Yokohama), we teach clear and practical defenses against the kinds of attacks women are most likely to face, including:

  • Being grabbed from behind

  • Having your wrist seized

  • Being choked

  • Facing an incoming punch

Through realistic scenarios and hands-on training, you will develop the ability to stay calm and react quickly when it matters most.

Practical Self-Defense Techniques Every Woman Should Learn

In KMG Japan’s women’s self-defense classes, you’ll learn techniques tailored to situations women commonly face in Tokyo and Yokohama.

Dealing with Harassment on Trains

✓ How to respond if someone touches you in a crowded train
✓ How to resist when you can’t raise your voice
✓ How to effectively draw attention and get help from others

Stalking & Following Countermeasures

✓ How to recognize danger early through situational awareness
✓ How to maintain safe distance
✓ How to respond if you realize someone is following you

Defending Against Physical Attacks

✓ Escaping wrist and arm grabs
✓ Defending against grabbing, pinning, or tackling
✓ How to react if you’re knocked down
✓ Practical techniques to get up and escape quickly

The Strength You Gain Through Krav Maga

What women gain through Krav Maga is more than just self-defense techniques.

Physical Strength

Learning practical self-defense skills reduces daily anxiety and builds a deep sense of security.
The confidence of knowing “I can protect myself if necessary” changes the way you live every day.

Mental Strength

The confidence built through training itself helps deter criminals.
Women who walk with confidence are less likely to be targeted.

FAQ

Q1: This is my first time learning self-defense techniques. Can women learn them?

A: Yes, many of KMG Japan's female members start with no prior experience in self-defense. Krav Maga's unique feature is that it allows you to learn effective techniques regardless of your physique or strength. We welcome beginner women at both our dojos in Tokyo and Yokohama.

Q2: I'm not good at exercise. Is that okay?

A: Yes, it's okay. In self-defense, there are many situations where correct technique and situational judgment are more important than athletic ability. Even if you're not good at sports, you can steadily improve. In fact, there are women who have had similar concerns who have continued training at their own pace and improved their skills.

Q3: Is it okay to participate alone?

A: Yes, most people attend alone. Both the Tokyo and Yokohama dojos have a friendly atmosphere, and you can easily get along with others. We also have women-only classes, so you can feel at ease.

Q4: I'm not confident in my physical strength...

A: Krav Maga emphasizes practical techniques to compensate for differences in physique and strength. By learning quick reactions, efficient movements, and attacking and defending by targeting weak points, you can improve your ability to defend yourself. By continuing to train, your physical strength and confidence will naturally improve.

Q5: Can I take the course in either Tokyo or Yokohama?

A: Yes, you can take classes at both dojos. You can choose the one that best suits your work and lifestyle.

Q6: How many times a week should I attend?

A: Most people start with once a week. You can flexibly adjust it to fit your lifestyle.

Q7: How long does it take to become able to protect myself?

A. With consistent training twice a week, most women start to feel more confident and develop natural defensive reflexes within about six months. You’ll also gain striking ability and a stronger sense of control in real situations.
